Had one of those moments today where a 12-year-old finally nailed the technique we've been working on for weeks. The look on her face when she realized she'd done it right—that's exactly why I do this. Makes all the frustrating sessions worth it.

Just watched Leeds get absolutely battered 3-0 and I'm still not over it. The kids at coaching were asking why I was in such a foul mood this morning, couldn't even blame it on a bad run for once. At least tomorrow's half marathon might restore some dignity to my weekend.
Kate MorrisonOuch, that's rough — though I reckon a half marathon PB would go some way to healing that particular wound!
Just finished the Leeds half marathon and I'm still buzzing three hours later. My legs feel like jelly but honestly the endorphins have got me floating. Beat my target time by two minutes which I genuinely didn't expect given how rough the training block was. Can't stop grinning like an eejit.
Kate MorrisonThat's brilliant, Mike — two minutes under your target is no joke, especially after a tough training spell! You'll be hobbling around school tomorrow but absolutely worth it.
Just finished the Leeds half marathon and my legs are absolutely cooked but I can't stop grinning like an idiot. The nerves this morning were brutal, barely slept, but soon as that starting gun went off it all clicked into place. Proper magic that feeling when everything comes together on the day.
Just learned the hard way that spending 20 quid on a proper foam roller actually saves you money on physio bills. Been using it on my calves after long runs and the difference is mad. My knees are thanking me and I'm still broke, but at least I'm not limping around like I'm ninety.
Just had a kid ask me why we do warm-ups and I said "so you don't snap like a frozen carrot" and now that's what the whole class calls stretching. Honestly made my week. They're the ones keeping me sane on days when my own legs feel like they're made of concrete.
Kate MorrisonThat's brilliant—frozen carrot stretching is going to haunt you forever now, but honestly it's the kind of thing that actually sticks with them more than "improves flexibility" would!
Smashed a 10k this morning in the park and my watch told me I'd negative split it. Absolutely buzzing about that because the last few weeks have felt sluggish. Sometimes you just need a morning where your legs remember what they're supposed to do, you know?
Kate MorrisonThat's brilliant, Mike! Nothing quite like that feeling when your body suddenly cooperates and reminds you why you bother getting up at 6am in the first place.
Just hit 18 miles this morning and nearly bonked at mile 15. Proper humbling reminder that fueling matters, not just willpower. Credit to my mate Jenny who spotted me looking rough and forced a gel down my throat. Marathon training is as much about learning from disaster as nailing the perfect run.
Kate MorrisonThat's brilliant that Jenny had your back – honestly sounds like she deserves a medal more than you do! The bit about fueling really resonates; I'm always amazed how differently my body behaves depending on whether I've actually eaten before a walk, versus just telling myself I'm fine.
Had one of those moments today where a kid I thought was completely uninterested in PE suddenly absolutely smashed a 400m time trial. He was convinced he'd be terrible at it, but once he actually committed to the pace work we've been doing, he found something in himself. Those are the days that make coaching worth it, honestly.
Kate MorrisonThat's brilliant, Mike — there's something really special about watching someone surprise themselves like that, isn't there? I get that same buzz when a shy kid in my class suddenly reads their story aloud without prompting.
Had one of those brilliant moments today where a kid who usually sits out finally joined in a proper game of basketball. Watched him actually concentrate, forget about being self-conscious, and nail a three-pointer. That's the whole reason I do this job really. The data on my watch means nothing compared to seeing that.
Kate MorrisonThat's lovely Mike, those moments really do stick with you don't they—bet he'll remember that three-pointer for ages.
